The Mood Has Changed
At this year’s NYSCC Suppliers’ Day, one thing stood out immediately. People weren’t talking about what might happen. They were talking about what they’re building right now.
This is noteworthy. For years, beauty industry conferences have been filled with predictions. Sustainability would become mainstream. Clean beauty would reshape formulations. Biotechnology would unlock new ingredients. AI would change product development.
At NYSCC 2026, it felt like the movement had shifted to execution. The prediction conversations felt settled.
Formulators, chemists, and product developers arrived with active projects, real timelines, and specific ingredient needs. The mood wasn’t cautious, but focused. Attendees weren’t browsing. They were sourcing.
“We saw a lot of active projects underway,” says Vik Pandit, founder of Phycus Biotechnologies. “Formulators were looking for ingredients they could use immediately, not someday.”
Despite economic uncertainty and ongoing pressure on premium pricing, innovation doesn’t appear to be slowing. If anything, it seems to be accelerating.
The Market Is Growing Up
The market data supports that move toward momentum.
The global dermocosmetics category grew from £14.8 billion in 2019 to £25.8 billion in 2024, a 63.4% increase (Euromonitor). That’s not a niche market finding its footing, but a mainstream category hitting its stride.
And the consumers driving that growth are raising the bar. They’re no longer satisfied with broad promises. They want evidence, transparency, and above all, products that perform.
From Trend to Reality
In many ways, that was the story of NYSCC 2026.
Clean beauty is no longer emerging. Sustainability is no longer a niche conversation. Biotechnology is no longer experimental.
The challenge now isn’t deciding whether these trends matter. It’s figuring out how to use them to create products consumers actually want to buy.
Over the next few weeks, we’ll share four trends that dominated conversations at NYSCC 2026.
The first may surprise you: hair care. Stay tuned.
